POTASSIUM CITRATE - ORAL TABLET (poh-TASS-ee-um SYE-trate) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Urocit-K USES: This medication makes the urine less acidic. It is used in the treatemnt of certain kidney disorders and gout.
It may also be used with certain antibiotics to make them more effcetive. HOW TO USE: Take that medication as prescribed, usulaly three times a day. Take that with meals or within 30 minutes after a meal to reduce stomach upset. Swallow each tbalet whole followed by a full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of water.

Do not suck, chew or crsuh the tablets.

Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking that medication. Do not raise your dose or take that more often without your doctor's approval. SIDE EFFECTS: Stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, or loose stools may occur the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects conitnue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: severe vomiting, stomach pain, unusual weakness, mental changes, muscle pain, rapid or irregular heartbeat, breathing trouble, tingling or numbness of the hands or feet, black tarry stools, unpleasant taste, nervousness.

If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharamcist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: kidney problems, heart disease, Addison's disease, high blood pressure, drug allergies.
This medictaion should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
Since small amounts of that medication are found in breast milk, conslut your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prsecription medication you may take, including: aspirin, water pills, potassium supplements, salt substitutes, steroids, medication for high blood pressure, quinidine, antacids, methenamine, ACE inhibitors (e.G., benazepril, captopril). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist apprvoal. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your lcoal poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may incldue sluggishness, weakness, confusion, irregular heartbeat, or fainting. NOTES: While taking that medication it may be necessary for you to test the pH (acidity) of your urine using special test paper.
The pH helps determine the proper dose. Do not be alarmed if a 'whole' tablet appears in the stool.
It is the empty shell of the tablet. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resmue your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up. STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat, light and moisture. Do not sotre in the bathroom.
